AN ECONOMIC BILL OF RIGHTS
WILL GUARANTEE
ECONOMIC SECURITY
TO ALL OUR CITIZENS

The Declaration of Independence guarantees every citizen the right to Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.  We now realize that the political rights we do have don’t provide the economic security our citizens need to actually pursue happiness.  Without the opportunity to pursue happiness life and liberty lose their deep purpose.

The opportunity to pursue happiness is the real American Dream.  We are now in a period of great economic transformation.  It’s clear that it’s less expensive to pay for basic human needs up front than to pay for the consequences of underfunding those needs.  This fact is not new.  What is new is that intelligent technology is transforming our economic reality and giving us the best opportunity we’ve ever had to reach the goal of economic security. There are bountiful benefits for all Americans if we are prepared.

People who are close to being broke, sick, homeless, or jobless, live in a constant state of fear. That fear is the genesis of authoritarianism. To protect our democracy, we must create a society in which basic needs are not privileges, but guarantees.

These guarantees will create dramatic, healthy economic growth and make true freedom possible. They are practical, long overdue, and make real economic sense.  And in this era of intelligent technology and abundant productivity, they are more achievable now than ever before.

We therefore advocate a set of economic standards:

an Economic Bill of Rights for the American People in the 21st century.  These are measurable, achievable standards that represent investments in our people.  Investments that will resulting a wealthier, more stable, productive, and secure society.
